Information Collection and Use
Novacom International Limited (owner and operator of findamentor.com hereafter referred to as FindAMentor) is the sole owner of the information collected on this site. We will not sell, share, or rent this information to others in ways different from what is disclosed in this statement. FindAMentor collects information from members and customers at several different points of our website.
By accepting these terms and conditions you hereby give FindAMentor the right to show your member profile(s) in search engines such as Google or Facebook. This enables potential mentors and mentees to find you on the web. They are then able to join FindAMentor and contact you through your profile at FindAMentor. The search engine listing does not allow others to send you a message or add you as a friend until you give them permission after they contact you through the confidential system at FindAMentor. They will be able to join FindAMentor and contact you through the site. Members’ real names and email addresses will not be shared in the search engine listing unless the member puts the information in the member profile. (not recommended—FindAMentor suggests using a FindAMentor ID in the profile, different from your name and we do not suggest putting your email address in your profile—email addresses provided for your account are not shared with other members at any time until the member decides to share it with others themselves.)
Registration
In order to use this website, a visitor must first complete the registration form and become a member. During registration the visitor is required to give their contact information (such as name and email address). This information is used to contact the member about the services at our site, for which they have expressed interest. It is optional for a member to provide demographic information (such as income level and gender), and unique identifiers (such as real name, address, and phone number), but encouraged so we can provide a more personalized experience on our site.
We may use your name, in part or wholly in a URL identifier or keyword identifier, so your profile can be searched on the internet in order to help you find a mentor or mentee.
Order Forms
We request information from customers on our product and service order forms. Here a customer must provide contact information (like name and shipping address) and financial information (like credit card number and expiration date). This information is used for billing purposes and to fill customers’ orders. If we have trouble processing an order, this contact information is used to get in touch with the customer.
Cookies
A cookie is a piece of data stored on the visitor’s device containing information. When someone visits our site and joins as a member, our system will ask them if they want us to remember them when they come back. If they check the yes box, our system sets a cookie and keeps a record so we can recognize them as soon as they return. This way it is not necessary for the member to log in every time they visit. Usage of a cookie is in no way linked to any personally identifiable information while on our site.
If a user rejects the cookie, they may still use our site but will have to log in every time. This is desirable when more than one member uses the same computer. Once a member closes their browser, our system forgets about them until they log in again.
Log Files
When you log into our site you automatically give us an IP address. We use IP addresses to analyze trends, administer the site, track users’ movement, and gather broad demographic information for aggregate use. IP addresses are not linked to personally identifiable information.
Links
This website contains links to other sites. This privacy statement applies solely to information collected by this website. Please be aware that FindAMentor is not responsible for the privacy practices of any other sites. We encourage our users to be aware of this when they leave our site and to read the privacy statements of each and every website that collects personally identifiable information.
Newsletter
If a user wishes to subscribe to our newsletter, we ask for contact information such as name and email address.
Surveys & Contests
From time to time our site requests information from users via surveys or during contests. Participation in these surveys or contests is completely voluntary and the user has a choice whether or not to disclose information. Contact information will be used to notify the winners and award prizes. Survey information will be used for purposes of monitoring or improving the satisfaction of our customers. Information requested may include contact information (such as name and shipping address), and demographic information (such as zip code, age).
Security
This website takes every precaution to protect our customers’ information. When you submit sensitive information via the website, your information is protected both online and offline.
When our registration or order form asks you to enter sensitive information (such as a credit card number), that information is encrypted and protected with industry-standard SSL/TLS encryption while in transit. On a secure page, modern browsers show a lock icon in the address bar to indicate the connection is encrypted.
While we use SSL/TLS encryption to protect sensitive information online, we also do everything in our power to protect customer information offline. All of the customers’ information, not just the sensitive information mentioned above, is restricted in our offices. Only staff who need the information to perform a specific job (such as billing or customer service) are granted access to personally identifiable information. Staff use password-protected devices and screens when leaving their desk. All staff are kept up to date on our security and privacy practices. Finally, the servers that store personally identifiable information are kept in a secure environment.
If you have any questions about the security at our website, you can send an email to [email protected].
Special Offers
Established members will occasionally receive information on products, services, special deals, and newsletters. Out of respect for the privacy of our customers we present an option to receive, or not receive, these types of communications. Please see options below.
Site and Service Updates
We also send customers service and site announcement updates. Members are not able to unsubscribe from service announcements, which contain important information about our service. Via email or phone, we communicate with members and customers to provide requested services and to discuss issues relating to their account.
Updating/Deleting Personal Information
If a member’s personally identifiable information changes (such as zip code), or if a member no longer desires our service, we provide a way to correct, update or delete the user’s personal data. This can be done at the member account page. You can also request deletion via our Data Deletion page.
Data Retention
We keep your account and profile information while your membership is active. If you delete your account or request deletion, we remove or anonymize personal data within 30 days, except where we must keep records by law (for example billing or legal compliance).
Block Notices options
Our customers are given the opportunity to ‘opt-out’ of having their information used for certain purposes. There are places in the site where we still need to gather information, but that information will not be used for anything other than the purpose for which you are providing it. For example, our order form has an ‘opt-out’ mechanism so customers who buy products can prevent marketing material from being sent to them and can keep their email address off of our lists.
Customers who no longer wish to receive our newsletter, or promotional materials, may opt-out of receiving these communications by modifying their member information, or by replying to ‘unsubscribe’ in the subject line of the email sent to them. You can also email us at [email protected].
Customers are always notified when their information is being collected by outside parties. We do this so our customers can make an informed choice whether they should proceed to use the services that require an outside party, or not.
Notification of Changes
If we decide to change our privacy policy, we will post changes on this page so customers are always aware of what information we collect, how we use it, and under what circumstances we share it. If at any point we decide to use personally identifiable information in a manner different from that stated at the time it was collected, we will notify customers by way of an email. Customers will have a choice as to whether or not we use their information in this different manner. We will use information in accordance with the privacy policy under which the information was collected.
