How do I verify that the mentor or mentee is qualified and authentic?
FindAMentor does not verify mentor or mentee qualifications. You check the questionnaire and references yourself before connecting.
Utilize the FindAMentor mentor questionnaire form or mentee questionnaire form.
Have them fill out the form and check their references.
If things check out and you feel comfortable, connect and complete a mentor session using the FindAMentor Mentor session FORM.
What to ask references
- Ask how long they’ve known the person and how they know them.
- If the person you’re checking on is a mentor, ask about their qualifications and expertise.
- If the person you’re checking on is a mentee, ask about their character and attitude.
- Ask if they think the person would make a good mentor or mentee.
- Ask how many years of experience the person has in the particular field.
Red flags to watch for
- References who can’t clearly say how they know the person, or how long they’ve known them.
- Claims of expertise that don’t match what references describe.
- Pressure to share personal information, meet privately, or send money before you’re comfortable.
- Refusal to complete a questionnaire or provide references.
If something feels wrong, pause the connection and contact us.
