Introductory Phrase:
An IMG lost on how to achieve my goals in the U.S.
About You:
I am a final year medical student, 23. I passed my step 1 on the first try and I intend to clear the rest of my steps in the same fashion. I believe I am a very motivated and driven person. Independent and quick to adapt. I started medical school at 16, I had to start again due to safety and political issues in my home country, so I was sent to Hungary to start all over again at 17. I have done rotations in the UK, Central Europe, and Nigeria and now in the U.S. I have found a gem here, the training is unlike anything I have had, and I want more. It will be a huge struggle, because I understand what I have to go through to be considered for a residency program, but I intend to do my best. I am still unsure about my specialty, but I have always loved orthopaedics, surgery and trauma. The big picture is this: I see myself as a vessel, wanting to fill it up with world class medical knowledge and training, and eventually spread this in my home country. Medical students are going through the motions of passing the next exam, or being competitive to stand out to their superiors, all I see is a wealth of talented minds, that have gone through years of study and training to get to where they are, this is the path I crave to follow, without stopping. I hope you, as a mentor, can see that in me, and guide me in the right path.
Looking for:
I am looking for someone who had to go through hurdles to get to where they are. Someone who understands and treats knowledge like a curator, taking care of it, building it and waiting to find someone like me to pass it off to, someone who knows that the successor in the field will do just as good and better. Someone who takes pride in work that creates a ripple effect for years to come, without care for his/her name being noticed.
